March/April Newsletter
Shalom Y'all!
We didn't get a newsletter out earlier in March, so this will be our "March/April" edition! That's part of the beauty of being a small and cozy Congregation!
We just had our "23rd Annual" Passover Seder, and it was a great success! We had 58 guests at the Country Club (59 if you count Elijah, who made a brief guest appearance). The food was excellent, and the company even better! Drake Suddreth and young Mr. Bograd found the Afikoman, and Saul Gordon handed out the 2 dollar bill prizes as usual. A splendid time was had by all!
More great news! Congregation Emanuel has been awarded the Legacy Heritage Foundation Grant for the third year in a row - Mazel Tov to us! Rabbi Lebeau of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York assures us the Rabbinical Fellows are all very high quality candidates for the upcoming year. We look forward to being matched with one of the Fellows.
Wednesday April 7th at 7:30 pm we have our next Congregation Meeting. We will be reviewing the contract with the Legacy Heritage Foundation, and brainstorming on what qualities we will be searching for in the Rabbinical Fellow, to relay to Rabbi Lebeau as he matches us with him/her.
Rabbi Sarah Freidson is visiting us once again the weekend of April 9th-11th. We'll be having the usual Friday evening, Saturday Morning, Saturday evening and Sunday morning services and events - please refer to the "Events Calendar" on our website for details. We are particularly proud of the program we have lined up for Saturday night for Yom HaShoah - "The Holocaust: Crisis of Faith - The Problem of Evil". We'll be presenting a dramatic reading of Elie Wiesel's play "Ani Ma'amin" on that theme, to be followed by a discussion. We are also pleased to have Stephanie Woods as guest speaker that evening. Stephanie teaches Holocaust Studies at the local High School, and is active at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the NC Holocaust Council. She is a dynamic speaker, and we are looking forward to hearing her! The program gets under way at 6 pm with a covered dish dinner.
Judge Bentley Kassal will be visiting us once again on Monday, April 19th at 10 am to take photos for the Jewish Monument project. He is a WW II veteran who was recently honored by President Obama at the last D-Day ceremony in Normandy, France. He served many years as an appelate court judge in New York, and served in the State Legislature as well. Come and join us as we welcome him back to Congregation Emanuel!
Here's wishing everyone a Happy Passover! See you at the Shul!
